A family has been terrorised by a balaclava-clad gang of men wielding machetes and iron bars during a home invasion in Sydney's west.
The family of five were at their home in Talasea St, Whalan, when the gang forced their way in through the front door about 7pm (AEST) on Thursday.
The men, all wearing balaclavas, threatened the family with machetes, hammers and iron bars before making demands for cash.
The 38-year-old mother suffered a minor cut on her finger when she attempted to fight off the armed men.
Her partner and three children were not injured, police said.
The men were given a small sum of cash and ran from the premises before fleeing in an unknown car.
Police are attempting to establish a motive for the attack but believe it may be a case of mistaken identity.
