Man dies swimming in Sydney Harbour

An 18-year-old man has died after being struck by a cruiser as he swam in Sydney Harbour.

Emergency crews spotted the seriously injured teenager at Athol Bay, near Mosman, on Monday evening.

He was pulled from the water and rushed to Royal North Shore Hospital where he later died.

Early police investigations suggest the man was with a group of friends on a 40-foot cruiser when he decided to go for a swim on the northern side of Sydney Harbour, near Taronga Zoo.

It appears the man sustained fatal injuries when a cruiser struck him as he was swimming.

A coronial report is being prepared.
