A mysterious spiral which lit up the night-sky in Norway yesterday has left UFO-watchers excited and scientists baffled.
The Sun newspaper reported that experts believed the spectacle was "an entirely new astral phenomenon."
Thousands of Norwegians bombarded newspapers and TV stations to report seeing the spiral phenomenon which lasted for about two minutes.
They described a spinning star which trailed a "streaming tail" of blue light before exploding into a "Catherine-wheel" spiral of light.
The Huffington Post website said speculation was rampant as to the origin of the phenomenon, with opinion ranging from "anything from a Russian rocket to a meteor or shock wave".
The sighting came the day before US President Barack Obama was due in Norway to receive his Nobel Peace Prize.
