Destination Queenstown chief executive Stephen Pahl today announced his resignation, effective from next week, after only eight months in the job.

Mr Pahl, who took over as CEO of the tourism body on January 19 this year, says he is moving back to Brisbane to "reinvigorate'' his family's two businesses, managed by his wife Debbie.

DQ's board chairman Erna Spijkerbosch said former board member Ken Matthews would step in as consultant CEO from September 25 until a replacement for Mr Pahl is found.
