An Auckland man went to great lengths to get back into a Queenstown bar after being ejected for being too intoxicated, but instead found himself locked inside a neighbouring restaurant just before 1am yesterday.
Sergeant Steve Watt said the 29-year-old man was lucky he did not fall from the roof given the heavy rain at the time.
After climbing on to the roof in Brecon St, the man smashed a window which gave him entry into the Lone Star restaurant, tripping the alarm.
He then made his way to the front door in an attempt to get out but found it was locked.
At this stage, people had started to gather outside.
The man tried unsuccessfully to smash a door, before breaking a side window, allowing him to exit the restaurant, Sgt Watt said. While in the building, the man allegedly pulled a beer tap and emptied a keg.
Sgt Watt said the man was found by police officers, arrested and faced three charges of wilful damage and one charge of being unlawfully in a building.
