Drunk woman had two kids in car

A Frankton woman who argued over responsibility for a traffic collision in Queenstown on Monday was found to be legally drunk while driving with two children as her passengers.

Senior Constable Chris Blackford, of Queenstown, said yesterday a 35-year-old New Zealand woman arrived at the resort's police station with a Queenstown man at 5.20pm on Monday.

The pair were arguing over who was responsible for the minor collision between their station wagons on Hilton Pl at the Gorge Rd intersection a short time earlier.

The woman was breath-tested in the station and charged with driving with a breath-alcohol level of 536mcg, 136mcg over the legal limit.

In the woman's Mitsubishi were two primary-school-aged children.

The man's car was stationary and preparing to turn out of Hilton Pl on to Gorge Rd and the woman's car was directly behind his. He said she hit his car, but she said he rolled his car backwards.

The woman is expected to appear in the Queenstown District Court on Monday.
