Women's disc golf competition

Female disc golf players are being encouraged to enter a women's disc golf competition at the Queenstown Botanic Gardens tomorrow.

Organiser Barry Dolman said although general competitions had female categories there was not a specific female competition.

"So it's a bit new in that respect."

The sport was male-dominated and the competition aimed to introduce female players to competition level because, although many women played, many "are not used to competing", he said.

The competition is open to all ages.

At present he had seven confirmed entries and said there would be about 16 spaces.

The women would be split into groups, with the winners of the groups going on to play in finals.

"The winners of each group will go into the finals and play 18 holes to take out the $100."

The competition starts at 11am tomorrow, beginning at the bandstand in the gardens.

Entries can be made at Budget Communications in O'Connells Mall or by emailing budget@fishnet.net.nz.
