Tax cuts will put public servants' jobs at risk, a union says.
The Public Service Association is taking out a series of advertisements saying that every 10 cents a year in tax cuts represents the jobs of seven public servants.
The PSA's campaign comes as members gather for their conference at which National leader John Key and Prime Minister Helen Clark are due to speak.
Labour is bringing in tax cuts from October 1 and National promises to up the ante by increasing the cuts and bringing them forward.
PSA national secretary Brenda Pilott said she believed people would be surprised at the high cost of even a very small tax cut.
"If cutting seven jobs returns 10 cents a year two each New Zealander, what kind of cuts will be needed to pay for tax cuts of $50 a week?" Ms Pilott asked.
She said it was a myth that the New Zealand bureaucracy was large by international standards when it was below the OECD average.
