A woman has been shot dead in Waikato this morning.
Armed police were called to Matamata after reports of a shooting.
Inspector Chris Robinson of northern police communications told The New Zealand Herald a man was "assisting police with inquiries".
He said the shooting happened just outside Matamata about 8.14am.
