Suspected stabbing in Christchurch

Police are investigating a suspected stabbing on a residential Christchurch street which left a man seriously injured.

Emergency services were called to the incident on Warrington Street in the suburb of Edgeware just after 3.30am today.

A spokesperson for St John said three ambulances attended the incident but she did not know how many people were transported to hospital.

Senior Sergeant Ray Appleby said the street was cordoned off while police examined the scene.

He said the man's injuries were not life-threatening.

It is understood knives were involved.
