Emergency services converge after reports of explosion

Emergency services have converged on an Orakei street after reports of an explosion.

It is unclear what has caused the blast at a house on Ngaio St but both police and the Fire Service have confirmed they are attending.

The New Zealand Herald has learned that police requested assistance from the Fire Service after an "incident" on Ngaio St.

Firefighters have evacuated four homes in the area immediately adjacent to the affected property.

A Fire Service hazardous materials unit is also at the scene.

Police are in charge of the incident and are expected to release more information soon.

A photographer at the scene said bomb experts appeared to be at the property.
