Woman charged with attempted murder

A woman has been charged with attempted murder after an alleged attack on three people in Taranaki.

The 34-year-old woman was arrested this afternoon in connection with an incident at a Hawera address on Monday night, police said.

She is alleged to have attempted to harm two women and a man, as well as herself.

All four lived at the property, police said.

"Officers spoke with the woman and other witnesses in an effort to ascertain what led to the incident," Detective Senior Sergeant Brent Matuku, of the Taranaki CIB, said.

"None of the four sustained any injuries, but were assessed by medical staff at the Taranaki Base Hospital."

The woman was charged with attempted murder and appeared before the New Plymouth District Court this afternoon.

She was remanded on bail and was being provided medical support, police said.

"This is an isolated incident and no one else is being sought in relation to it," Mr Matuku said.

"As this matter is still under investigation and before the court, police have no further comment at this stage."
