Northland death treated as homicide

The death of a Northland man from injuries believed to have been sustained in a fight is being treated as a homicide.

The 29-year-old man from Kataia, showed up at Kataia Hospital around 10.30pm yesterday, and died a short time later from his injuries, Detective Senior Sergeant Rhys Johnston of the Far North CIB said.

It was believed to have been related to a row in the Fairburn area of the town earlier that night.

"Police are investigating a dispute which occurred in the Fairburn area prior to this," Mr Johnston said.

"A 50-year-old man has been arrested in relation to that dispute."
