A person has been seriously injured in a head on crash near Te Whaiti in the Bay of Plenty.
Police were alerted to the crash involving two vehicles on Old State Highway 38 at 3.26pm.
One passenger was seriously injured while three others sustained minor injuries.
Police northern communications Inspector Ian Brooker said an ambulance and helicopter had arrived at the scene and police were on their way.
"It looks as if two cars have collided head on, but we don't know much more than that at this stage" he said.
Mr Brooker said the call for help came from a Ruatahuna service station. He said there was very little cell phone coverage in the area.
