Business leaders are giving a big tick to Auckland Mayor Len Brown's 30-year plan for the city.
The ambitious long-term vision was the first of its kind and there was "a lot to applaud'', said Employers and Manufacturers Association acting chief executive Bruce Goldsworthy.
It supported investment in business and aimed to improve public transport and create a "business-friendly city'', he said.
"This plan gives the people of Auckland a clear direction - the central city has suffered for lack of this sort of planning.
"Overall it gets the big tick,'' he said.
Newmarket Business Association chief executive Ashley Church agreed it was a positive step but wanted to see the plan move with the city's changing transport needs, consumer habits and environment.
"It is good that they've taken that vision, as long as it's fluid and recognises this need to evolve,'' he said.
Labour Auckland said the plan showed commitment to stopping the sprawl and building modern public transport.
"I congratulate the Auckland Council for sticking to their guns in the face of ongoing Government hostility to their vision for Auckland,'' Auckland issues spokesman Phil Twyford said.
