A man assaulted in central Wellington last week is on life support.
Detective Senior Sergeant Donna Howard said the 25-year-old Kapiti man and two friends were approached by a group of men opposite the Tournament carpark in Tory Street about 3.50am last Thursday.
The trio were assaulted, the victim seriously. One of his friends received an ankle injury.
"We are treating this incident extremely seriously, given the nature of the injuries this victim has received. We are still working to identify a male who was in the vicinity of Tory Street at the time of the assault and still need further help from the public to identify him,'' Ms Howard said.
The Pacific Island man was wearing distinctive wooden rosary beads around his neck and had a tribal tattoo on his arm. He stood about 1.83m (six feet) tall, had short-cropped hair and was wearing a purple Huffer-branded t-shirt, dark grey or blue jeans and grey canvas shoes.
He was with two other Pacific Island males, who police would also like to speak to.
All were in their early to mid-20s.
Police wanted to hear from anyone with information about the men or the incident.
