9 months' jail for killing neighbour's dog

A South Auckland man has been jailed for nine months after he beat a neighbour's dog to death.

Reuben Pene-Wiropo, 51, was sentenced today in Manukau District Court after he was found guilty in October of killing 10-year-old Snoop, TVNZ reported.

Pene-Wiropo said Snoop came on to his property looking for a fight but Snoop's family said they do not know how the dog could have made it from their fully fenced property to the house 200 metres down the road.

The SPCA described the case as one of its most horrifying yet.
