Human pond-skimming, children's face-painting, and family scavenger hunts were just some of the activities at the Remarkables Spring Carnival on Saturday afternoon.

Skiers and boarders from across the region joined in the festive atmosphere to mark the official start of the spring season.

Overall victory in the human pond-skim event was a split decision between Queenstown local Leah Mulkerrins and auto-inspired "Team Jag" - who usually work as Remarkables Ski Patrol when they are not water skiing across a sub-zero, 5m pool, dressed as cars.

The Best Switch award went to Queenstown skier Matt Johnson for braving the 5m pool backwards.
