Opposition to the Government's cuts to adult community education will be voiced at a protest meeting in Dunedin today.

Labour MP Clare Curran and Labour's spokeswoman for tertiary education Maryan Street will address a meeting in the Kaikorai Valley College gymnasium to share their concerns about the 80% funding cuts announced last month.

"Communities all around the country have been outraged by the Government's senseless decision to cut funding for these important lifelong learning programmes," Ms Curran said.

The meeting was organised by adult community education teachers and students and will show off some students' work.

In Dunedin, courses run at four high schools employ 200-plus tutors and are attended by more than 700 students a year.

The meeting will run from 1pm to 3pm.
