About 100 people protesting over fossil fuel and climate change issues blocked entry to three ANZ Bank branches in central Dunedin.
The protesters holding banners and signs blocked entry to two branches at the intersection of George and Hanover Sts, and another branch near Moray Pl this morning.
And they sang several songs, including Nga iwi E, a Maori folk song for the people of the Pacific.
Some individual customers, sometimes escorted by police entered the branches. One man, who declined to give his name, said he was frustrated that he could not obtain money to pay a bill.
Several passing cars and other vehicles tooted their support for protesters near the Hanover St branches.
The protesters are lobbying the bank to divest itself of fossil fuel interests contributing to climate change.
Police were at all three branches this morning.
The protest was part of a two-week campaign involving similar events in other main centres organised by 350 Aotearoa.
