The family of a girl who suffered spinal injuries after a balcony collapsed on top of her at a Six60 concert in Dunedin has been "humbled" by the support a Givealittle page set up for her has received.

Second year student Bailley Unahi sustained multiple fractures last Friday when a packed balcony collapsed at a block of flats on Castle St where the concert was taking place.

The 19-year-old was taken to Dunedin Hospital's emergency department in a serious condition and later transferred to Christchurch Hospital for surgery on her spine.

"Bailley has had an operation on Saturday as part of her road to recovery, she is positive and determined, an attitude that reflects her personality," a family statement released this afternoon said.

By 5pm today, more than $20,000 had been pledged.

"These donations will be an enormous help to the Unahi family as they all work hard on Bailley's rehabilitation," the statement said.

"This is an incredibly stressful time for the Unahi family, trying to come to terms with what has happened, along with ensuring Bailley is receiving all the help and support possible.

"They thank you sincerely for what you, the New Zealand public have done for them and are continuing to do, they ask you to pray for a miracle for Bailley."

The Givealittle page for Ms Unahi, set up by a friend of the Unahi family to assist them with medical costs, described the teen as "an outgoing, vibrant and caring 19-year-old woman with an infectious laugh and a smile that lights up any room she enters".

"She is an active sports person who loves rugby, netball basketball and touch. Bailley is a real team player who lives life to the full."

The page said the Unahi family needed to focus on helping Ms Unahi on her road to recovery and financial assistance would enable them to be able to do so in the coming months.

"We know that the Unahis have always been committed to community causes -- it's now time for us to help them in their time of need."

The page (here) has so far garnered more than $20,000 in pledges.

Many of those who have donated also left messages of support for the young woman and her family.

One donor said: "A talented, caring and outgoing member of our rugby club. Get well soon."

Another donor wrote: "Praying for Bailley's recovery."
