Police confirmed it was the Dunedin man about 10.15am today.
A post-mortem was completed yesterday and confirmed there were no suspicious circumstances to his death.
Police are asking to respect the privacy of the family at this time.
Mr Gourlay went missing on December 20last year when he was dropped off on Kaikorai Valley Rd at 8am.
