A thief who stole a wristwatch from a Melbourne St house in South Dunedin left the one he had been wearing at the scene, police said yesterday.
Sergeant Steve Aitken, of Dunedin said the burglar "left his watch and swapped it for another'' in the Saturday night incident.
The stolen watch was camouflage patterned.

An imitation Glock BB gun, a hunting knife, a touchscreen computer and eight PlayStation 4 games were also taken.
There was no sign of forced entry, Sgt Aitken said.
● A forklift was taken from outside Todd Engineering between 8pm on Christmas Day and 8am on Boxing Day.
Sgt Aitken said it had possibly been taken for a joyride as it was found "just around the corner'' in Glasgow St and a broken beer bottle was discovered nearby.
● An unlocked car parked in Tomahawk Rd was entered on Christmas eve and a backpack removed.
The car owner's keys were also taken.
