The owners of 76 Arthur St, who did not wish to be named, were shocked when a Crown Relocations truck struck the side of their home and entered their living area about 11am on Saturday.
No-one was injured. The truck had rolled about 50m down Duncan St before hitting two unoccupied cars and the house.
Constable Pete Bevan, of Dunedin, said the driver, who was not in the truck at the time, was in shock.
Const Bevan suspected the handbrake of the vehicle had not been applied, or had failed, causing the vehicle to move from its parked position.
The truck would be the subject of a mechanical inspection, he said. The driver of the truck declined to comment.
Three police vehicles and one fire appliance attended the scene.
