The contractor hired to install 2degrees' 12m cellphone tower on Scroggs Hill Rd told residents last week that construction would start today and finish about August 3.
Brighton Residents v 2degrees spokesman Daryl Hanna was disappointed the tower was going ahead and said the group would be out in force trying to block access to the site.
''It's absolutely gutting that we haven't been listened to,'' Mr Hanna said. `We have a couple of things planned. Obstructing the road is one of them. We have been left with nothing else ...''
The group held a two-hour protest outside 2degrees' store in George St, Dunedin, on Saturday.
Two security guards were stationed outside the store during the protest, which involved about 20 people. 2degrees external communications manager Charlene White said the company was aware building the tower on Scroggs Hill Rd ''will not please everyone''.
''We have been open and have actively engaged with the community since April and answered all questions about location and the safety of cell sites.
''In response to feedback from the resident's group, we delayed construction and reviewed the area once more, to make sure we couldn't find another site. Further delay to improved service for our customers would be unnecessary and unfair to them.''
