River levels falling
River levels are lowering in many Otago rivers. However, the following are continuing to run at flood levels and are expected to remain high throughout today.
Taieri - The Taieri River is continuing to fall but is expected to remain at flood alert levels for at least 24 hours. The spillway gates and flood banks of the Lower Taieri Flood Protection Scheme functioned as expected.
Lower Clutha - The Lower Clutha is continuing to rise and will remain high as water from upper catchments drain into it. Minor surface flooding is expected in low-lying areas.
Pomahaka - The Pomahaka River is falling but is expected to remain high.
North Otago catchments - North Otago rivers have peaked and are falling.
Central Otago - The Manuherikia River peaked at 140 cumecs and is steady.
Dunedin streams - Flows in the Water of Leith and Lindsay Creek have returned to normal levels.
The predicted south-west weather change is expected to keep the Taieri, Lower Clutha, and Pomahaka Rivers at high levels for an extended period.
