The Dunedin Comic Collective is opening a new hub for comic artists, fans and collectors.
''A lot of people do comics, but most of them don't talk about it. We want to bring people out of the woodwork and get them talking to each other about what they're doing,'' Dunedin Comic Collective spokesman Spencer Hall said yesterday.
''There's a really exciting independent comic scene happening in New Zealand at the moment and we want to expose more people to that.''
The charitable trust collective was established in 2007 to promote and support the local comic art community.
''We're different from other stores, because we're mainly concentrating on local 'small press', or underground stuff.''
The shop was named after the collective's DUD comic anthology, which has been published since 2009.
The George St shop would sell New Zealand comics and hold regular events, including comic workshops and the Storylines and Zinefest festivals, Mr Hall said.
DUD Comics will be launched at 5.30pm on Thursday. A free bus to Port Chalmers will leave Countdown in the central city at 5pm and return at 8pm.
