Everything from corsets to the Church of the Good Shepherd was on show at the New Zealand Association of Miniature Enthusiasts convention in Dunedin at the weekend.

Dunedin Miniatures Club organising committee chairman Mike Ind said miniaturists drew inspiration from past events or the outer reaches of their imagination.

"From accurate history to totally off the wall and everything in between."

About 100 miniaturists filled a big space at the Edgar Centre with many small things, he said.

The works, mainly orscale, were from 25 clubs in New Zealand and delegates had also come from Western Australia, Tasmania and New South Wales, he said.

The Dunedin club's interpretation of the the kiwiana theme was a collection of holiday cribs called the Southern Cove, Mr Ind said.

The work took the 35 club members more than 1000 hours to complete, he said.

His wife was happy to see the large work leave the front room of their house in Ocean View, Mr Ind said.

The Dunedin club hoped for 4000 visitors at the convention but about 3000 had entered by yesterday afternoon, he said.

Fewer visitors came because of competition with the Steam Festival, he said.

However, those who had attended had embraced the event and the 200 visiting delegates were pleased, so the convention was deemed a success, he said.
