Dunedin police responding to a report of a break-in at Bedpost furniture shop on Cumberland St did not have to look far for the culprit.
When police arrived yesterday morning, an intoxicated 18-year-old Oamaru man was found inside, sound asleep on one of the display beds, Detective Sergeant John Hedges said.
He had allegedly kicked the front door down to gain entry to the building.
Despite the business' welcoming advertising telling Dunedin residents "You can sleep on it", Det Sgt Hedges said it was not a defence, and the man was charged with unlawfully entering the building.
The man would appear in the Dunedin District Court this week, he said.
