Two teenagers who allegedly twice raided a Dunedin cinema for alcohol were nabbed by Batman moviegoers early yesterday.
Police were called to Hoyts Octagon just after midnight following reports members of the public had detained the pair following a short pursuit.
Acting Senior Sergeant Tania Baron said the two 17-year-olds had jumped over the bar and made off with a couple of bottles of wine.
They later returned to the cinema and jumped over the bar again, but were pursued and caught by nearby taxi drivers and movie patrons, who had just finished watching The Dark Knight Rises.
Snr Sgt Baron praised the witnesses' "fantastic" work and urged them to come forward to help police with their inquiries.
The teenagers were expected to appear in the Dunedin District Court on theft-related charges.
