The Palmerston North-based television cameraman went to great lengths to reach Dunedin to propose to nurse Jo Hurdle on Wednesday, but snow and the resulting flight cancellations meant he had to put the big question on ice for a day.
The situation was marginally better yesterday.
He got as far as Wellington, but his early morning connecting flight to Dunedin was cancelled.
Rather than wait for the next flight which would get him to Dunedin last night, he flew to Auckland to catch a connecting flight which was supposed to get him to Dunedin by 4.30pm yesterday.
After a 35-minute delay to the flight, he arrived in Dunedin - in just enough time to take his bride-to-be to the jewellery store.
For Ms Hurdle, the visit to Pascoes Jewellers in the Golden Centre was not a surprise. The couple had talked about buying a ring.
However, it was a surprise when they finished paying for the ring and Mr Procter got down on one knee to propose to her.
After all the weather-related complications, he got the warm fuzzies he was hoping for when she said yes.
"It's pretty overwhelming - it's marvellous," Ms Hurdle said in the moments which followed.
The couple met at a Christian training school at En Hakkore, near Waipiata in Central Otago, less than five weeks ago.
"We both got a very strong impression that we were meant to be together," Mr Procter said.
More recently, Ms Hurdle attended a nursing conference in Levin and they met again.
"I thought it was a good opportunity to have dinner together, and she said yes, on one condition: that her mother came too."
Mr Procter said they hoped to get married later this year where they first met - in the laundry at En Hakkore.
