Former Dunedin mayor Russell Calvert has died, aged 102.
Mr Calvert lived in Richmond, near Nelson, at Oakwoods Village.
He served as Dunedin's mayor from 1965-68, having moved to the city during the Depression.
Mr Calvert became involved in Dunedin local body politics through the Kew Ratepayers and Householders Association in the 1940s, and was an organiser for the Dunedin Combined Ratepayers Association's 1953 successful campaign for unimproved value rating.
He won three council by-elections, in 1958, 1961 and 1970.
He also served four terms on the Town and Country Planning Appeal Board, and was chairman of the Clutha Valley Development Commission in the early 1970s.
