Elle Macpherson doesn't believe in "excessive" exercise or fad diets, but maintains a simple regime of workouts and rest each day.

The 52-year-old Australian model and businesswoman - dubbed 'The Body' due to her fabulous figure - says she follows a diet and fitness routine, which includes 45 minutes of sport and 45 minutes of "quiet time" a day.

"I don't believe in fad diets or excessive exercise plans. I keep it simple, so it's easier to stick to," she told  The New Potato online.

"Forty-five minutes of sport a day, and forty-five minutes of quiet time a day. Love, laughter and water! I believe in wellness and maintenance, which to me means easy does it all year long."

Macpherson has to pencil in workouts into her busy schedule to ensure she always does exercise.

"I treat my personal diary like my business diary. So anything I want to prioritise - like exercise - gets scheduled in just like an important meeting."

She said her non-stop work commitments have begun to take their toll on her body and decreased her alkaline level.

"Several years ago, despite my best efforts, I started feeling run-down. I tried an array of supplements, but nothing seemed to do the trick.

"That's when I met Simone Laubscher, Ph.D., who specialises in the science of nutrition. She explained that there was one factor in my life that wasn't balanced: my body's alkalinity. My pH levels of acid to alkaline were off-kilter, causing my body to try to compensate.

"As she put it, my body was "working overtime, all the time," leaving me feeling exhausted."
