Jennifer Saunders says she will "never" bring back the Absolutely Fabulous television series.

The 57-year-old British writer and creator of the comedy film plays Edina 'Eddie' Monsoon alongside Joanna Lumley's Patsy Stone as champagne swigging fashionistas.

The TV show ran on and off from 1992 to the anniversary special in 2012.

When asked at the Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie premier in London yesterday whether the comedy duo would return to TV, Saunders said: "No, we'd never darling! How could we possibly go back to the small screen?"

She said she didn't plan to make a sequel to the movie, which features cameos from Mad Men actor Jon Hamm, supermodel Kate Moss, designer Stella McCartney, singer Lulu and celebrity interviewer Graham Norton.

"I'm not planning a sequel at all, no. This is it!"

Meanwhile, the actresses have revealed they were disappointed when they realised the liquid in their champagne flutes on the set of the film were filled with ginger beer, not bubbles.

Lumley explained: "People wanted us to be slaughtered! I rather wish it could be true, though, there were moments where we'd say, 'Could we have a real bottle here?' "

Saunders agreed: "This is the only sad thing, we don't drink at all."
