The American alternative rock band said today they will be playing a bonus show at Auckland's Powerstation on March 11, before their show at Vector Arena the day after.
The Pixies will be celebrating the 20th anniversary of the release of their classic 1989 album, Doolittle by bringing The Doolittle Tour to the southern hemisphere.
They will perform all of the songs from Doolittle and its related B-sides, as well as classics such as Debaser, Wave of Mutilation, Here Comes Your Man, Hey, and Gouge Away.
The group -- Black Francis, Kim Deal, Joey Santiago and David Lovering -- will also play in Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth after the Auckland gigs.
"We wanted to do something special for Doolittle's 20th anniversary," The Pixies songwriter and singer Black Francis said.
"We thought this was a good opportunity to play all of the songs from that album, something we don't normally do at a regular gig."
This will be the first New Zealand visit by The Pixies, and follows on from sell-out 2009 European and US tours showcasing Doolittle.
Tickets for the Powerstation show will go on sale through Ticketmaster on February 4.
