Fair Go presenter Alison Mau has announced her engagement to her aerobics champion girlfriend Karleen Edmonds.

The pair have been dating for two years, after meeting at Edmonds' hip-hop dance studio.

Mau first declared their relationship publicly in November 2010 at a Queen of the Whole Universe drag pageant in Auckland.

She told Gaynz.com at the time she was bisexual and had "fallen in love with a wonderful woman and it was just so unexpected".

She proposed to Edmonds about 10 days ago after finalising her divorce to One News anchorman Simon Dallow, to whom she has two children.

"We're excited to be taking this next step in our lives together, and want to thank all our family and friends for their unanimously positive reaction to our plans, and for all their unwavering support," she said in a statement to Auckland Now.

Mau had a public outburst on TVNZ's Breakfast show in 2010, after magazine Woman's Day published photographs of her and Edmonds claiming they were in a relationship.

Mau said she had been stalked by paparazzi for a month, and said it was a "gross intrusion of our privacy" and "more than a little creepy".

Mau and Dallow split in 2009 after a relationship of 19 years, 13 of them as a married couple.
