You would think that two movies would be more than enough to extract every last drop of humour out of death-defying slides down snow-covered mountains.

Well think again, because Ice Age 3: Dawn of the Dinosaurs (Rialto and Hoyts) has plenty more ways to get our favourite prehistoric mammals hurtling towards oblivion in a comical fashion. In the first movie the mismatched trio became friends. The second one was about love and in the third film here comes the baby carriage.

Manny (Ray Romano) is worrying about impending fatherhood. Diego (Denis Leary) decides that it is time to strike out on his own. Sid (John Leguizamo) also feels left out until chance throws parenthood at him as well.

Being Sid, the three eggs he finds and decides to nurture turn out to be dinosaur eggs. Also being Sid, finding out that his babies are dinosaurs does not put him off. In no time at all mother dinosaur reclaims her children and takes them and Sid off to the lost land of the dinosaurs which apparently was hidden under the ice all this time.

With plenty of misgivings the others set off to save Sid and they find a new character to help them on their quest. Buck (Simon Pegg) is a weasel who has been down with the dinosaurs so long he has gone loco.

The third Ice Age movie is mildly amusing for grown ups but the kids love it and that is what matters.

Best thing: The dinosaur animation is top-notch and that acorn-loving squirrel thing is still consistently funny.

Worst thing: The big scary dinosaur is maybe a little too successful. Some littlies are going to freak out.

See it with: A small box of popcorn for each child, you know they will only fight over a big tub.
