Our Memories, Our Stories was commissioned by the Teviot Valley 2007 Society to mark 150 years of pastoral farming in the valley. Its subtitle is "Stories of families and personalities, past and present from the Teviot Valley, Central Otago", which really sums it up. With photographs on almost every page, it contains extracts of oral histories from valley families and details of all the projects and events organised in 2007 to mark the occasion. The informative text is by former ODT reporter Diane King.

More Than Meets The Eye (self-published) is the memoirs of former National MP for Otago Central Murray Rose. It covers his early life on the farm at "Rutherglen", in a cottage built by his grandfather in 1890, as well as his years in politics and public life. The political material is particularly interesting. The book is available from the author, Murray Rose, 104 Rutherglen Rd, Waitahuna RD3, Lawrence 9593.

Pet Genetics: Why bulldogs got flat faces and Manx cats lost their tails, by Jane Young (Triple Helix Resources Ltd) is a slim but interesting illustrated volume answering common questions such as "How do canaries learn to sing?" and "What are the oldest breeds of dogs?" The author, a qualified biology teacher, explains the basic mechanisms of heredity using non-technical language and clear explanations.
