A group of students about to launch a site allowing students to rate the quality of Dunedin flats claims to have signed up more than 1000 tenants.
Geography student Letisha Nicholas said the group's ''Rate My Flat'' website - which launched at the end of last month - would allow students to be more discerning when choosing a flat.
''Basically, it's a website where tenants can rate their flat on a number of criteria, including warmth [and] landlord responsiveness.
''The idea being that other tenants can then go and see how the house performs in the depths of winter ... to see what it's like before you sign the lease.''
Science communication student Lindsey Horne said the website was not about landlord bashing and good landlords would actually benefit from the site.
''It's a really great place for landlords to showcase and celebrate their well-maintained properties,'' she said.
More than 1000 tenants had already rated their flats and the group hoped to have the majority of Dunedin student flats rated soon, she said.
