A highly regarded physicist working at the cutting edge of nanotechnology research has been appointed to a senior post at the University of Otago.
Prof Richard Blaikie (45), a University of Canterbury staff member and director of the MacDiarmid Institute for Advanced Materials and Nanotechnology, will become research and enterprise deputy vice-chancellor in December. He will also hold a personal chair in physics.
He replaces Prof Harlene Hayne, who will become Otago's next vice-chancellor when Prof Sir David Skegg leaves in July.
Prof Helen Nicholson, dean of the Otago School of Medical Sciences, will be acting research and enterprise deputy vice-chancellor for the second half of this year.
