The New Zealand men's Black Sticks have been beaten 2-0 by Korea in their opening game of the Olympic hockey tournament to cast early doubt on their chances to progress from pool play.

With highly ranked Germany and The Netherlands in their group and only the top two teams prgressing to the semi finals, a win against a similarly-ranked Korean team would have been highly favourable for the Black Sticks.

Instead, the Kiwis were largely outplayed by the Koreans and will need to find better form for their next match against India on Thursday (NZ time).
