Police in drug-fuelled Sydney car chase

A driver who was allegedly high on drugs has led police on a chase in western Sydney that reached speeds of almost 200km/h.

Highway patrol officers say they noticed a car speeding on the M4 Motorway at South Wentworthville just before 9.30am (AEST) on Saturday.

The driver refused to stop when police flashed their lights.

They began a pursuit which went on for 10km with the car allegedly overtaking eight trucks and 17 cars at speeds of up to 197km/h.

The pursuit ended at Rouse Hill where police arrested a 36-year-old Annandale man.

He was immediately suspended from driving and had his licence and registration plates confiscated.

Police expect to charge him with a range of laws including driving under the influence of prohibited drugs.
