A Sydney primary school teacher accused of filming young girls getting changed will remain in custody for at least another week.
The 34-year-old appeared in Mt Druitt Local Court today charged with offences involving female students at his school.
The teacher's defence lawyer told the court his client would wait another week to apply for bail.
Family and friends were in court to support the teacher, who appeared in the dock for only a few minutes, wearing a sports shirt.
Police allege the teacher secretly videotaped girls at a western Sydney school while they were undressing in a change room after sports lessons.
A search of the teacher's home allegedly uncovered a digital camera, USB drives and four videos, according to police media.
The teacher is charged with four counts of possessing child abuse material, four counts of filming a person in a private act, one count of attempting to film a person in a private act without consent, and four of installing a device to facilitate observation or filming.
The mother of a child at the school said she was furious she hadn't been told about the accusations against the Year Six sports teacher.
"It's wrong. We should have known long ago. Long ago, when it first happened. Not off the radio," she told ABC radio today.
A NSW Department of Education and Training (DET) spokesman said it would not have been right to tell parents before the teacher had been charged.
He said the teacher had not worked with children since a group of female students reported finding a video camera while they were getting changed on July 30.
School management alerted police and the teacher was removed.
The teacher will appear at Penrith Local Court by video-link on August 31.
