Like many of you, the team here at Southern Football is looking forward to some downtime, to spend with family and friends.

This year has been one of the most challenging for our communities throughout New Zealand and down here in the South.

With so much uncertainty at the start of 2022, to the reality of quickly rising Covid-19 case numbers, the inability to be in larger groups and the constant change and unknown, it has been a year the history books will remember.

Football, I believe, will still play a big part in our communities’ recovery and resilience.

I would like to thank those hundreds of volunteers, clubs, businesses and organisations that have supported us throughout the year.

Next year will be our largest and most exciting time in football.

We have seen the potential that is there with the Women’s Rugby World Cup, which gave us that feel-good factor.

It was then followed by this week’s celebrations of the Fifa World Cup.

These demonstrated how important it is to create lifelong memories, while having fun.
