A new podcast and radio show is proving there’s more to waste minimisation than a kerbside collection service.

REthinking Waste — From Recycling to Resources in Ōtepoti on OAR FM explores actions that complement Dunedin City Council-led waste minimisation measures.

Hosts Leisa de Klerk and Rob Riddell Tigeir speak with inspirational locals about a range of initiatives and offer helpful hacks on reducing, reusing, repurposing, repairing, reclaiming and recycling.

Ms de Klerk said the podcast team were grateful for the DCC’s support for the series, recognising that many people were "really passionate" about best practices for waste and were interested in hearing about other strategies that fell "between the gaps" in kerbside recycling.

"If you get the recycling part right, you’ll be able to start making other changes and build habits to be able to minimise a lot more of your waste," she said.

"Being able to showcase the things that are working really well in the community is really important because that’s how we get those changes started."

A new episode of REthinking Waste airs on 105.4FM and 1575AM every second Thursday at 6pm, replayed the following Saturday at 9.30am. Podcasts are available from oar.org.nz and other major platforms.
