Firefighters spend the morning battling large blaze

Three fire crews spent more than two hours battling a large hedge fire south of Christchurch this morning.

Firefighters from the Leeston, Southbridge and Dunsandel stations were called to the blaze on Drain Rd, Leeston, at 3.15am.

The fire engulfed about 100m of the hedge. However, no property was damaged and no one was hurt in the blaze.

A Fire and Emergency NZ spokesman said crews were at the scene for more than two hours.

They eventually brought the fire under control and left the area about 5.30am.
