THREE GENERATIONS: Benjamin Imrie sits with father, Grant Imrie and grandfather, Bruce Imrie, as they reflect on the life of Maureen Imrie near Shag Rock, where she died in 2017.
More than 50 family and friends of a woman who died near Shag Rock in 2017 gathered at a new stone seat to remember her.

Mt Pleasant resident Maureen Imrie died when the car driven by her husband Bruce crashed through a barrier on Main Rd, Sumner, and into the sea.

For the next two years after the crash, Mr Imrie, 81, worked with the city council to have the seat installed for his wife, who he was with for 58 years.

He said the meet-up, which was held last Sunday, gave him closure.

“I feel relaxed now that it’s done, I’m more than relaxed,” he said.

He was “very pleased” that people from across the city, as well as Auckland, Melbourne, Sydney and Perth, turned up to pay their respects.

Mr Imrie said the event even reunited him with two friends of his own who he had not seen in almost 60 years.

“I really appreciated everyone coming,” he said.

After the gathering near Shag Rock, the event moved to The Good Home restaurant in Ferrymead where speeches reflected on Mrs Imrie’s life.
