Ben McLachlan has made a winning start to 2020.
The Queenstown doubles specialist helped claim a first-up victory for Japan at the ATP Cup in Perth — the ATP’s version of the Davis Cup.
Alongside Toshihide Matsui, McLachlan beat Uruguayan duo Ariel Behar and Pablo Cuevas 7-6(5), 6-4 in the doubles match.
Yoshihito Nishioka and Go Soeda also claimed singles wins to give Japan an overall 3-0 victory.
"[It was the] first match of the year, so you always want to get off to a good start," McLachlan was quoted as saying by the ATP.
"Yoshi and Go really set the tone for us today, playing awesome singles matches.
"We had good vibes going in the locker room and we just went out there and had fun and played a good match"
Japan plays again today against Georgia.
