The ORFU has appointed former Otago representative, Roy Hawker, as coach of the Otago sevens team which will contest the national competition in Queenstown in January.
Hawker played for Otago from 1997 to 2001 and represented Southland in 2002.
He also played for the Otago sevens team from 1996 to 2001 and was selected for the New Zealand sevens squad in 1998.
Hawker has recently been involved at a local level coaching the Pirates senior team in the Dunedin Premier competition in 2009 and 2010, along with the Pirates sevens team.
"I'm really looking forward to getting the team together for the nationals in January," Hawker. said
"There is a lot of talent within the province. We have a number of young players who will use this form of the game to push for higher honours and I'm keen to assist with this development pathway."
