Otago Boys' High School has been denied the chance to compete for the prestigious Moascar Cup.
The school's First XV was due to get a challenge against Timaru Boys' High School on Wednesday but Timaru no longer holds the cup.
It won it off St Andrew's College last Tuesday but promptly lost it in its first defence in Timaru on Saturday, going down 18-3 to Nelson College.
Otago Boys', which has never had a challenge for the cup, let alone won it, will now just have to play a normal interschool game against Timaru Boys'.
● In the Otago premier schools competition on Saturday, St Kevin's College had an impressive 33-25 win over South Otago High School in Oamaru.
It led 17-12 at the break and then some intelligent play in the second half kept it in front.
First five-eighth Levi Emery was the key man for St Kevin's College and he helped himself to 28 points from two tries, three conversions and four penalties.
An 80m try that started with an intercept and was finished off by Emery right before the break was a key moment in the match. Emery kicked a penalty at the end of the game to deny the visiting side a losing bonus point.
Others to stand out for the home team were loose forward Wyn Sutherland and prop Sami Havea.
The other four games were all one-way traffic, as John McGlashan College beat King's High School 65-0, Dunstan High School beat Taieri College 55-0, Waitaki Boys' High School beat Kavanagh College 85-5 and Otago Boys' High School Second XV beat Mount Aspiring College 68-7.
With one round to go before the competition splits into a top-six format, John McGlashan is a clear leader and Waitaki Boys' looks safe in second position.
But one of the five next teams: South Otago, Otago Boys', King's, St Kevin's and Dunstan will miss out on the top six, depending on next week's matches.
